Persistent Category II fetal heart rate (FHR) patterns that fail to improve with intrauterine resuscitative measures present a critical clinical dilemma: continue expectant management or proceed with delivery? While many clinicians are familiar with the Clark algorithm, fewer are aware of the Shields algorithm and the growing body of evidence supporting its application.
This poster presentation, originally featured at the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOOG), highlights data suggesting that the Shields algorithm may provide superior guidance compared to Clark’s in managing unresolved Category II tracings. It is an important resource for all clinicians engaged in fetal monitoring and intrapartum decision-making.
